Book Club Discussion (May 2026): Into the Blue by Emma Brodie

Our May 2026 book club pick was Into the Blue by Emma Brodie, a sweeping contemporary romance that follows a long, complicated emotional connection between two people whose lives keep pulling them together and apart over the years.

Genre & Overall Reading Experience

This sits firmly in the space of contemporary romance with strong literary fiction elements. It’s not a fast or light read—instead, it unfolds slowly, focusing on emotional buildup over time rather than constant plot momentum.

It almost reads like a character study wrapped inside a romance, where the relationship is shaped as much by circumstance as it is by feeling.

Story Overview

At the center are AJ Graves and Noah Drew, two people who meet young and remain emotionally entangled over the years as their lives evolve in very different directions. Their connection is shaped by creativity, ambition, fame, and the pressure of being seen in the public eye.

Rather than being a simple love story, it explores:

One of the biggest questions this book raised for our discussion was:

Several of us agreed that the audiobook version really elevates the emotional weight of the story.
